The Nice Man

The nice man lay outside our door.

We asked him what he was doing and he said, "I'm your doormat today."

We said, "We have a doormat thank you, made out of fine doormat material; you however are a person, a man - a man of some substance we hear: fiery, feisty, passionate, strong and wise."

He thought about this a while and responded, "But they say I'm nice, and since nice is such an empty word, I wasn't sure what they meant, so in my confusion I came here and lay down."

We looked at each other and we looked down at our new doormat.

He did look very nice.
